A Quick Interview with RBS MUN’S Head of Logistics

-Meghna Karmacharya

In order to make RBS MUN 2018 a success, our two Head of Logistics have worked tirelessly for the past few months. We wanted to take a look into their worlds as event organizers. So, Suyasha Shakya, one of our two head of logistics, gave us a little insight on what it is like to be in charge of such an important event by answering a few questions.

Q. What are three traits you absolutely NEED to be Head of Logistics?

Ans: Leadership skills, resourcefulness and ability to do hard work. You HAVE to be hardworking.

Q. What are three aspects about being in the logistics team that annoy you the most?

Ans: People not listening to you, a lot of work and I can’t think of a third one. I actually love my job here.

Q. What is the biggest challenge you faced while organizing RBS MUN2018?

Ans:  We didn’t divide the work as well as we should have which made the organizing aspect a bit hard.

Q. What has been your favorite part about being Head of Logistics?

Ans:  Probably bossing people around. But in all seriousness, the fulfilling feeling of  doing a lot of work to improve the event as a whole has been my favorite thing.

Q. How has this years’ MUN been more eco-friendly than previous MUN’S in Rbs?

Ans:  This year we have done a lot of new stuff and tried to make the event as eco-friendly as possible. We replaced the material used for ID cards, folders and chit papers which are now all either nepali paper or recycled paper. This year we do not have the plastic previously used for the ID card holders and mineral water bottles. The flex banners used before has now been replaced with paper banners instead.

Q. Name one thing the logistics team has done differently this year?

Ans:  This year the logistics team is much more organized. Unlike last year I think we have allocated work more efficiently. Each committee has two general logistics and two committees are looked over by one co-logistic. So, the procedure of functioning and helping other team members out has become much easier.

Q. What do you think are the three types of people essential for the logistics team to succeed?

Ans:  The first type of person would be a hardworking person who can give all the time the job requires. Another type of person would be someone who can act as a mini-head of logistics who can help out with bossing people around with me.  The most essential type of person are those who happily lend a helping hand without taking it as a burden. And of course the fun people are always needed to lighten the mood.

Q. Can you name three things a logistics team member must have on hand during the conference?

Ans: A Walkie-Talkie or their phones, a pen, which we are lacking at the moment and the enthusiasm to work.

We can imagine how stressful it must be to have to take responsibility for such a big event.

Q. Did you ever feel like you couldn’t do it if you didn’t how did you handle the pressure?

Ans: At times you feel like it’s getting a bit too much but you get over that quite quickly. A few times I felt that way as the co-ordination did not work out well. But, you get over such thoughts when you have a team as good as mine.

Q. What are a few main things you keep in mind while co-ordinating the logistics team?

Ans:  First of all, staying calm is something I remember because if you’re not calm the other will not be able to follow your directions. This is why keeping my cool is a major part I learned during this whole process. I certainly did meditate through all this. Secondly, remembering to divide work and not take all the responsibilities upon myself is an important part of it. Lastly, I make sure I do not make my team members feel like they are working under me, instead I make them feel like they are  working with me.

Q. Do you have a message for the Head of Logistics next year?

Ans: I would say all the best because this is a very taxing task. You have to be on top of all your responsibilities otherwise many things will not work out during the event. Make sure you divide the work effectively which is a MAJORLY important aspect of the organizing process. I would also like to say that, unfortunately, you will not find a better team than I have this year which you will have to live with.
